Modern Approaches to Phantom Limb Pain
June 01, 2026 | Tarragona, Spain
Learning objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Differentiate between the types of post-amputation pain and identify the appropriate treatment pathway for each.
2. Identify patients with neuroma pain who may benefit from surgical intervention, and understand that providing severed nerves with a biological target is the key mechanism distinguishing effective procedures.
3. Recognize that multiple hypotheses exist for the pathogenesis of Phantom Limb Pain, that they vary in their level of supporting evidence, and that these must be taken into account when justifying treatments
4. Select the appropriate motor training modality for a specific patient, understanding that the therapeutic goal is phantom limb movement and that mirrors and virtual reality are tools that must be used with that objective in mind.
